Are you looking for an easy-to-grow plant that produces pleasant and long-lasting highs that kick in instantly? Then you’ll love Northern Lights! This strain is what we call ‘word of mouth’ famous. If you’ve heard of one strain, it’s usually Northern Lights – and for good reason. Northern Lights seeds are dripping with resin, the flowering time is short and growers of all levels love her!
Northern Lights strain origin
Even though the name reminds us of the Nordic fjords, the parents of this bad boy originate from Afghanistan and Thailand. Rumour has it that it was first grown in Washington state and later gained popularity in the Netherlands around 1985.
What we do know is that this cult classic and fan favourite has produced some of the most popular strains on the market today. These include Super Silver Haze and Shiva Skunk – just to name a few!
Grow Northern Lights Feminised Seeds
These are feminised seeds. Female plants, unlike male plants, are the ones that actually produce weed. They start flowering when they receive less light per day, so in autumn or when you manipulate the light cycle indoors.
Northern Lights plants
This plant is deceptive in a funny way. It’s not a big plant, which can be disappointing if you don’t know how many great buds it’ll produce! It’s one of our most popular compact plants with high yields (it grows to a maximum of 28cm tall) and is a classic for indoor and outdoor growing.
Flowering and yield
The flowering period averages 7 to 9 weeks and is often a little shorter – so keep an eye out. Outdoor growers can harvest by mid-October at the latest.
And how high is the yield? Good question! That always depends on the right circumstances. Light hours, growing medium, nutrients and pruning all play a role. If everything goes well, you can expect yields of up to 12 ounces indoors. With outdoor plants, the yield can be even higher, up to 16 ounces.
Experience the Northern Lights effects
Are you looking for a balanced high that will relax your body and mind without making you tired or trapping you on the couch? Then you’ll love Northern Lights!
The strain is known for producing deeply relaxing highs that transition into an uplifting euphoria. Therefore, users feel calm but not trapped on the couch. If you’re looking for a great nighttime sleep aid, you can drift off to sleep with the strain’s sleep-inducing effects!
The reason for this is that Northern Lights is a full-bodied high. That’s why it’s so surprising that it comes with great side effects like euphoric feelings, laughter and smiles. Plus, it works fast and is a great instant fix for people who are plagued by stress, negative thoughts and anxiety.
As with most strains, the same problems occur with Northern Lights if left unchecked. These include dry eyes and a dry mouth. These problems are easily remedied by staying hydrated before and during smoking!
If you use a new strain and smoke too much, you may get a headache or mild paranoia, but if you back off, the symptoms may disappear immediately.
Northern Lights taste and smell
Northern Lights is a simple weed known for its pleasant smell and taste. Unlike Sour Diesel or other ‘smelly” strains, Northern Lights smells earthy and sweet with a distinct pine aroma. You may also detect hints of citrus, lime or even a hint of ammonia smell.
As for the taste, the experience is quite smooth. It’s subtle through and through, with hints of lemon sweetness, fresh pine and a lingering earthy (but not stinky) flavour that pleases the palate.

Northern Lights’ body-toned high makes it a great aid for physical and mental issues. Do you suffer from aches and pains, PMS, headaches or migraines, muscle spasms, high blood pressure or arthritis? Northern Lights has a relaxing effect.
